Bearadise Retreat and Hoot Owl Hideaway
Our cabins are located in Blairsville, GA, in the heart of North Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. We are only a 2 to 3 hour drive from cities like Atlanta, Ga., Chattanooga, TN and Greenville, SC., but this area is worlds apart from the business of the city. It is a setting that lends itself, beautifully, to plenty of outdoor adventures. Find yourself experiencing some of Georgia’s most beautiful landmarks, like Brasstown Bald, over 80 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and Vogel State Park. Visit our lakes, creeks, rivers or waterfalls, take in the captivating scenery, or enjoy one of our many festivals held throughout the year.
Blairsville is home to the 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott in Suches and the 4,180-acre Lake Nottely, with each offer boating, swimming, fishing, picnicking, hiking and camping, not to mention Lake Nottely’s 106 miles of shoreline. Vogel State Park – one of Georgia’s oldest, most popular state parks – has a 20-acre lake and swimming beach plus hiking trails and a waterfall. Close by, Helton Creek Falls has two beautiful falls set in Blairsville’s deep hardwood forest with a total drop of 100 feet.
There is pure seduction to the outdoor pursuits of Blairsville-Union County; this Georgia gem is uncrowded, serene and overwhelmingly picturesque. From its high peaks to its green valleys to its verdant forests to its bubbling creeks and streams, Blairsville acts as a lightning rod for those who want an outdoors escape. Shadowed by Brasstown Bald – Georgia’s highest peak – and the ancient Blue Ridge brimming with Cherokee Indian lore, it’s easy to spend a few days exploring all there is do in this magical mountain town.
We are also just a short 20-30 minute drive from other local towns that have equally as many attractions, such as Blue Ridge, GA, Hiawassee, GA, and Murphy, NC. The opportunities to connect with loved ones and nature here are endless!
The Traveler's Oasis
The Travelers Oasis is located Just south of New Smyrna Beach in the city of Edgewater. Our home is within reasonable distances of multiple attractions. The major theme parks such as, Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, EPCOT Center and Animal Kingdom are about 2 hours away located south-west of the city of Orlando. Daytona Beach is about 30 minutes north, Cocoa Beach is 45 minutes south and New Smyrna Beach is only about 10 minutes away! Many other attractions and wonderful places to eat can be found close by as well! If Cocoa Beach is an area you'd like to visit during your stay, we can recommend some great attractions and places to eat while you're there. At Port Canaveral, you can find some some excellent restaurants along the port area where the major cruise lines dock. In addition, the Exploration Tower located in the port is a wonderful family attraction that is also very affordable. Also, while at the port, don't forget to experience one of the highlights of your vacation and stop by Cocoa Beach Helicopter Tours! There are tours ranging from 3 to 6 to 12 to 35 minutes and are very reasonably priced! Photos of the beach, the Cocoa Beach Pier, the cruise ships and the Kennedy Space Center off in the distance (but very visible) will make your collection of vacation photos very exciting! Also be sure to keep an eye on the local media or the internet for the schedule of rocket launches form the Kennedy Space Center! With SpaceX and NASA both launching rockets on a weekly basis (sometimes even more often) there's a great chance that you could see a rocket launch! Even if you choose to stay in and a launch happens, you can clearly see the rocket going up from the house! Don't let the rocket having almost completed its journey into space make you think the excitement is over. Pause and be quiet for a few moments and you will begin to hear a deep and thundering sound from the distance as the roar of the rocket engines finally make their way to you. If you're at the port this doesn't take quite so long to hear! At the house though, even the windows will sometimes vibrate from the deep roar of the rockets engines!
In one day, it's not unreasonable to have gone to the beach, had fish for dinner at a great restaurant, watched a rocket launch into space, experience a helicopter ride and enjoyed some of the live entertainment found in the New Smyrna Beach area! Oh!!! I almost forgot to mention! Be sure to visit either some of the places to eat on the water, both in New Smyrna and in Port Canaveral or the River Breeze park just south of Edgewater to catch a glimpse of dolphins and manatees!
